As a project matures it becomes necessary to export the rhino models into revit for further refinement and documentation.
Rhino to revit roof.
The simple script that is shown calls for the selection of two revit edges and it uses them to create a geometrical surface by lofting them.
By enabling the directshape component in the grasshopper canvas grasshopper will then create a roof based on the lofted surface from grasshopper.
This will activate and import the roof geometry on a layer in rhino called roof.
You can export a 2d dwg but be careful when importing 3d dwg data into rhino 3 0 no problem in rhino 4 0 without using the 3 0 bonus tools.
These elements will be hosted to the rhino geometry.
The surface is then used to create a roof in revit.
Creating a revit directshape roof.
Depending on the base geometry revit may make editing the mass accessible via grips push pull arrows but this is not always the case.
Click on the zoom extents icon in rhino to find the roof geometry.
Extract plan export a 2d dwg floor plan from your revit model for reference in rhino.
Sample revit to rhino gh grasshopper definition for this example.
Finally in revit architecture we can load the mass family geometry into a project and associate building elements walls floors to the rhino geometry document the design and quantify.
Start a new revit project.
However the best method to generate native revit elements from rhino is to use the wall by face roof by face curtain system and or mass floors commands.
Of course with a little more work that roof could be a roof from boundary and create a roof system family.
Check the units in rhino under tools options then either import or insert the dwg plan as a reference.
Make sure you set the scaling units so that the imported file scale is the same as the rhino file.
There are many ways to pass models and objects between rhino and revit.
Therefore if the rhino file was created in metres make sure the import units are set to metres.
Import the sat file centre to centre.
Each of the methods below has its advantages and disadvantages.
The sat file will then load into the family.
A common workflow is to use rhino for early design and model exploration.
Grasshopper is launched directly from revit.
The geometry from rhino can be used in revit architecture the image below is a exported sat file from rhino inserted into a revit mass family template.
Save the family with a suitable name.
This will set the view so you can see the rest of the.
