To remove and replace a porch column.

After you have the replacement pvc railings pre fit the pieces between the posts to see if any cutting needs to be done.
Tip the posts into place and add trim.

If more than one pre assembled railing is needed between posts purchase additional pvc posts to install between the original porch posts.
Cut through the middle of the post with a reciprocating saw to make two separate vertical cuts one 8 inches above the other.
Choose from a variety of styles and colors to match or complement your existing porch railing.
Measure the distance between the original porch posts.
Use that measurement to cut if necessary the new porch column.
Knock out the section between the cuts with a hammer.

Porch posts contain full length aluminum inserts that provide structural support for a porch roof or overhang.

Measure from the porch beam to the jack and cut the 4 4 to just under this length.
Cut 2x4s to the necessary length and wedge these under the overhang beams that need support.
Position a jack directly under the porch beam next to the column.
Replace a porch column by measuring and marking new column for cutting make sure you mimic your existing porch columns in design.
You may have to cut from both ends of the column to match the design of the other porch columns.
Make sure you use enough temporary support beams so the overhang does not come crashing down.
For the landing brackets use self tapping concrete screws.
Attach a short 2 x 6 board to the end of a 4 x 4 post.
