Removing roof tiles.
Broken tiles dirt and debris will need to be picked up and removed.
Put your gloves and using the slate ripped remove the tiles around the flashing.
Then use a brick trowel to lift up the broken over the baton underneath and slide it down and out.
Start at the top of the roof and work your way toward the eaves.
Remove tiles from the roof ridge first.
However there is more than one way to remove moss from your roof tiles.
Moss can also be removed by using a stiff brush and some water to aid it.

Go down to the next row and loosen it.
Being able to easily remove roof tiles is the key to unlocking a roof so you can work on it to repair or modify it.
To facilitate their removal cut yourself some wedges from 4x2 timber 6 inch long pieces cut diagonally and push the wedges under the tiles at the course just above the one you want to remove.

This maneuver will help to remove the piles together with nails.
You should be able to simply slide the tiles back with out removing them leaving enough space to get your hand in.
Once the tiles have been removed there are things that can be found.
Removing the roof tiles looks like being the easiest.

Once you have safely gotten to the broken tile you ll need to slightly lift the tiles that overlap the one to be removed.
You can also attach a soft bristle brush to a long extendable pole if you have one so you can reach a lot further.
Also unplug the tiles.
Work your way through the top row of tiles weakening and pulling them.
Use a stiff brush such as a pushbroom to scrape away any stubborn mold or lichen patches still remaining.
Do this using two pieces of timber to hold them up.
You ll see what i mean when you give it a go it s just a matter of clearing the nibs.
If you do not have a scraper use a garden spade with a flat blade to hook the tiles underneath.
To get access to these tiles you may need to remove tiles around them.
Stay well away from the edge of the roof.
Then i could fill the gap above the window with wood.
Then lift out the tiles below with the wedges in place.
