I had the same problem on a few doors when i had the carpeting removed and laminate installed. That or replace the whole door and trim. Cut the filler piece so it is the same width as the door. The flooring is hardwood also i do not have central air heat.

Caulking won t affect the flooring but its caulk and doesn t last forever and dirt sticks to it. The door jamb and molding are now too short.
