If the risk of damage is too great to attack the residue with a scraper the other option is to apply a solvent to break down the adhesive properties so you can wipe the residue off.
Remove glue from vinyl record.
Use a dry rag or cloth to gradually loosen the residue.
This film collects dirt and causes your vinyl surface to look dingy and discolored.
This prevents me from having to worry whether i spill wood glue anywhere and whether i scratch the bottom surface of the record.
When you stick tape onto vinyl it often peels off with ease but you typically are left with a sticky residue from the tape adhesive.
Remove adhesive with goo gone.
Stop when you reach the outer edge.
Place the tip of your wood glue at the edge of your inner label and squeeze the bottle with light pressure.
You want to make sure that you remove it all in one piece if you see it ripping just slow down and be more careful.
You may need to use a flat straight edge such as a plastic scraper or old credit card to lift the adhesive from the vinyl.
Aside from that prepare a surface that you ll place the vinyl record on.
As the record spins continue squeezing out the glue so it creates lines around your record.
So my recommendation is the following to minimize solvent vinyl contact.
Remove tape residue from vinyl with white vinegar.
I usually use a spare vinyl record sleeve similar to the one you can get here vinyl record outer sleeves 12 lp crystal clear.
Helped a little but less than i hoped.
Scrape the sticky tape from the vinyl using a putty knife.
Gently move your thumb along the outer rim of the record to lift the glue.
Tape sticks strongly to a variety of surfaces including vinyl.
Amazingly this solvent i usually use to remove sticker residue is listed as being safe for vinyl.
Didn t really help at all.
Then go around over and over carefully lifting the dry glue from the vinyl.
Use soft cloth soaked with goo gone.
Apply wood glue over the entire record as it spins on your turntable.
Standard titebond ii peel detailed elsewhere.
You can go in.
Place the putty knife under an edge of the tape and begin to push the tape loose.
